The beginning of the Five Year Plan with its attendant victories and challenges has caused us to strive to ever greater heights of service. The BMG sent believers to Liberia and to Brazil during the inaugural year to visit these communities in spite of the morbid difficulties witnessed in the world external to the Baha'i Community. Divine Assistance accompanied our every step and we are truly grateful for these opportunities to offer such acts of service.

"We Laugh and We Pray" is an expression and demonstration of the transformative power of prayer and the joy of learning together. It offers some insight about the depth of involvement which participants experience when at the Black Men's Gathering. The Five Year Plan is designed to promote learning and encourage us to practice important disciplines including study, devotional expressions and the provision of opportunities for moral development among children and youth. Perhaps the joy you hear in the voices of those heard here will encourage you in your pursuit of these and other objectives.

May the Spirit which motivates the brothers at the Gathering be infused throughout the Baha'i Community and beyond.

And may the love in our hearts for each and every one of you find its mark in yours.

In the words of the Universal House of Justice: "The glorious destiny so clearly forecast in the divine texts beckons the dearly loved followers of the Blessed Beauty in your land to heights of striving yet to be attempted. Our Heartfelt prayer at the Holy Threshold is that whatever of that destiny lies in their immediate possibilities at this crucial time will be achieved with resounding triumph through their unceasing and unwavering endeavor."
